About AAPI Civic Engagement Fund - Creative Catalyst Fellowship

The Creative Catalyst Fellowship supports artists who use creative work to encourage civic participation, public dialogue, community engagement, and greater understanding of AAPI experiences.

The fellowship centers on the theme of “Belonging,” emphasizing community, inclusion, identity, connection, and recognition of the contributions of AAPI communities.

Rather than supporting projects solely for private artistic development, the program prioritizes work that can engage broader audiences and stimulate meaningful conversations around issues affecting AAPI communities.

Benefits of AAPI Civic Engagement Fund - Creative Catalyst Fellowship

They will support the publicity and distribution of final art projects in furtherance of our charitable purpose, drawing on a toolbox of resources subject to availability and relevance. This may include:

  • Creative Catalyst retreat:

An annual gathering, held in a different city each year, where Fellows deepen their understanding of critical issues facing AAPI communities, connect with community work on the ground, and situate their creative practice within the larger social justice movement

  • Communications support:

An accomplished communications consultant to help place local and national news stories about the work in connection with the AAPI Fund

  • Digital advertising:

To promote the final products and the AAPI Fund’s mission

  • Community introductions:

Connections to AAPI organizations that may want to use the work for charitable purposes

  • Exhibition placement:

Support placing the work in galleries, shows, or other venues, with priority given to venues experienced in presenting art with a social justice theme

  • Replica development:

Production and distribution of items like posters, books, calendars, and stickers to further promote the work of the AAPI Fund

AAPI Civic Engagement Fund - Creative Catalyst Fellowship Requirements

  • They’re looking for artist-led work that connects with AAPI communities: projects grounded in life experiences, shaped by cultural perspectives, and built to break through to new audiences. We’re drawn to work that’s portable and reproducible.

they'll fund:

  • Visual art (printmaking, illustration, photography, modular installations)
  • Digital and media-based work (short-form video, audio storytelling)
  • Written and narrative forms (poetry, zines, narratives)
  • Hybrid or interdisciplinary work built for public engagement

They’re unable to fund feature-length film, fully staged theater, dance works, community events requiring extended rehearsal infrastructure, or projects dependent on large-scale or fixed physical installations. If your practice touches these areas, we’re still interested; show us how the work can be adapted into something concise and shareable.
