The 3rd Rebecca H. Rhodes African Inclusive Literacy Research Grant is a collaborative initiative by the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) and the Comparative and International Education Society (CIES). The programme supports research aimed at improving literacy outcomes for children and youth with disabilities across African contexts. Applicants are encouraged to focus on inclusive literacy approaches and share results within 18 months of receiving the prize.
Prize Amount: USD 5,000 for a single primary applicant
Eligible applicants must:
Hold citizenship of an African country
Currently reside in Africa or have recent residence with a clear intention to continue work in Africa
Possess a master’s degree or equivalent and have started a doctoral program
Early career researchers and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply, especially as lead or co-lead investigators
Prepare Research Proposal: Include objectives, methodology, expected outcomes, and relevance to inclusive literacy.
Prepare Supporting Documents: CVs of all investigators, budget, references, and proof of submission to an authorized internal or institutional review board.
Submit Application: Follow the official submission process outlined by ADEA and CIES.
Review Process: Applications are reviewed by a jury including prize founders, ADEA representatives, and relevant CIES Special Interest Groups.
Award Notification: The winner will be notified in March 2026.
