About Bergel Institute Fellowships

The Bergel Institute offers Fellowships to individuals of all ages who wish to spend a year in intensive study and project development in a subject area that aligns with the advancement of human knowledge and the human condition.

Benefits of Bergel Institute Fellowships

Fellows receive a stipend of $30,000, which supports their research, creative work, and personal expenses during the year. The stipend covers travel and lodging for two required in-person visits:

  1. August (end of Q1) – an initial presentation to Institute leadership, sharing early progress
  2. May (end of Fellowship year) – a final presentation showcasing accomplishments and future plans
  • The Fellowship allows for flexible outputs, including:

  • Academic manuscripts or reports
  • Launch of a business, nonprofit, or research organization
  • Multimedia projects, such as video series or documentaries
  • Innovative deliverables that align with the project’s goals

By providing both financial and structural support, the Institute ensures Fellows can focus on producing high-quality work that contributes meaningfully to their chosen field.

Bergel Institute Fellowships Requirements

The Fellowship is open to applicants worldwide. Key eligibility points include:

  • No university affiliation required; undergraduate and graduate students may apply
  • Applicants may choose from the Institute’s suggested topics or propose their own
  • No age restriction
  • AI-assisted responses in the application are permitted
  • Fellows must demonstrate strong intrinsic motivation, creativity, and commitment to completing their project

While the program is mostly remote, the two in-person visits require travel, which the Institute fully covers. Applicants do not need a U.S. visa for remote participation but may require documentation for travel to Florida.

Application Date and Process

Applicants should consult the 2026–2027 Fellowship calendar for detailed timelines. Submissions are evaluated based on:

  • Alignment with the Institute’s mission
  • Feasibility and originality of the proposed project
  • Potential contribution to human knowledge and the human condition

Applications require a detailed project proposal, outlining objectives, methodology, anticipated outputs, and potential long-term impact. Candidates must also provide relevant background information, including academic or professional experience, if applicable.
