About BIRAC Breakthrough Solutions and Cost-Disruptive Innovations for Screening and Diagnosis

This open call under Grand Challenges India (GCI–BIRAC) aims to support indigenous innovations and transformative solutions in the priority infectious disease areas – i) tuberculosis, ii) emerging pathogens, iii) syndromic panels and iv) enteric pathogens. The call focuses on high-risk, high-reward innovations for screening and diagnostics, with an emphasis on near point-of-care and ultra-low-cost solutions that can significantly improve accessibility and availability.

Benefits of BIRAC Breakthrough Solutions and Cost-Disruptive Innovations for Screening and Diagnosis

Two categories of funding are available:

• Exploratory proposals
  • Funding: Up to INR 50,00,000
  • Duration: Up to 12 months
• Solution / product / technology development proposals
  • Funding: Up to INR 2,00,00,000
  • Duration: Up to 18 months

• Indian academic and research institutions, public and private R&D organizations, start-ups, and not-for-profit foundations
