Opportunity Details
The Grants in Biodiversity (GIB) Program provides support to research in biodiversity, conservation biology, ecology, and related social science approaches that ultimately aim to conserve, protect and enhance Alberta’s wildlife, fish, and natural habitats.
Funding: Average award is CAD 11,000; requests over CAD 20,000 need special justification.
Direct research costs: travel within Alberta, supplies, assistants, stipends.
Conference travel allowed if presenting ACA-funded research.
No coverage for overhead or travel outside Alberta (except limited conference cases).
Open to master’s and Ph.D. students from accredited universities worldwide.
Research must be conducted in Alberta.
Preference for early-stage students (within 2 years for master’s, 3 years for Ph.D.).
Only one project per student per year; one award per degree.
Postdocs and late-stage students are not eligible.
Applicants previously funded for similar research are excluded unless pursuing a new degree with a distinct project.
Must be written by the student, with supervisor guidance allowed.
Requires completion of Part A and Part B by the deadline.
University must sign the ACA Cooperative Project Agreement.
Results and raw data must be made publicly available within 48 months of funding end date.
