About GIJN Sigma Awards for Data Journalism
The international data journalism community is facing many challenges, and they want to support them. They want to bring together a community, and support those working with data, whether it's on climate change or international conflicts - because that's one of the priorities for their community at the moment - or on any other subject. As with previous editions, the award will maintain its no-category rule and will have experts in data journalism from around the world constituting its jury and prize committee.
Benefits of GIJN Sigma Awards for Data Journalism
- It is a paid competition where winners will receive a total prize of $5,000 that will be divided among the winners.
- Each winner may also receive a certificate of achievement, acknowledging their excellence in data journalism.
- Winners will participate in online panels, discussions and workshops led by the Global Investigative Journalism Network (GIJN) and other experts in the data journalism community.
- Similarly, through these international awards, participants will have the opportunity to gain recognition and participate in an international journalism award.
GIJN Sigma Awards for Data Journalism Requirements
- Journalists from around the world can apply for these awards and the competition welcomes individuals, small newsrooms and bigger teams to apply.
- All entries must feature work published between 1 January 2025 and 31 December 2025.
- Applicants can submit multiple projects.
- For small newsrooms, teams with 35 or fewer journalists, including freelancers/contractors may apply.
- Collaborative work must be categorized under large newsrooms.
- By entering, participants will grant permission for The Sigma Awards to feature their work, name and logo in promotional materials, including GIJN’s website.
- Moreover, all entries should be clear, concise, and well-structured, emphasizing the core essence of the work.
