Applications are open for the Carlo Schmid Programme for Internships in International Organisations & EU Institutions 2025. The program is aimed at German students and graduates from all academic disciplines. Applicants should have already dealt with international topics during their studies.
Program goal
The Carlo Schmid program, which was launched in 2001, familiarizes outstanding students and graduates with the problems and working methods in the international administration sector as part of an internship and helps to expand their intercultural competence. In addition, accompanying activities are intended to further improve the prerequisites and opportunities for these young people for later employment in the international field.
The Carlo Schmid program is carried out by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) in cooperation with the German National Academic Foundation and is financed with funds from the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF).
The Tönissteiner Circle is involved in supporting the scholarship holders with a mentoring program.
The internships are accompanied by introductory and summer seminars as well as the activities of the alumni association.
Interested parties can apply for one or two of the advertised internship offers. The application must
be aimed at the specific requirements and task profile of the advertised internship.

NOTE: New entry regulations have been in effect for Great Britain since January 1, 2021. The issuing of visas for internships that do not take place alongside studies (i.e. when entering the country with a "student visa" and the corresponding addition in the visa itself ("work permitted 20 hrs in term time, 40 hrs outside term time")) or as part of established exchange programs (e.g. IAESTE, AIESEC) is very restrictive. Information on visa regulations for entry into Great Britain can be found, for example, on the British government website https://www.gov.uk/check-uk-visa . Please be sure to find out about the entry requirements for your project before you apply.
The duration of the internships is four to eight months, as specified by the host organization.
Funding is not available in the summer months of July and August (except for internships at NATO).
