The Competition Commission is on a search for high-achieving graduates seeking to deepen their knowledge in competition economics to join our 2026 Cadet Training Programme (Graduate Development) for a period of 24 Months.
This is an exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the fields of competition law and economics, whilst making a meaningful contribution to South Africa's economy by advancing the Commission’s Vision 2030 of a Competitive, Dynamic, Deconcentrated and Inclusive economy that serves all South Africans.

Competition Commission Cadet Training Programme Requirements
1. Education and Academic Standing
- Human Capital Management track requires an Honours degree in Human Resource Management, Organisational Development, etc.
- Strategy, Public Policy and Governance demands a Master’s degree or equivalent postgraduate qualification in Public Policy, Public Administration, Strategic Management, or Planning, with 6-12 months’ research exposure.
- Economics I track requires a Honours degree in Economics.
- Finance & Accounting I track requires Honours in Finance or Accounting.
Across all tracks, a strong academic record is essential, with 70% or above academic average being preferred or an added advantage.
2. Prior Experience & Other Skills
- Some prior experience is acceptable in the Strategy / Public Policy track, but no more than 12 months.
- In most tracks, they require no related prior work experience, especially for those in Honours level tracks.
- Apart from academic qualifications, applicants must demonstrate:
- Research, analytical, investigative skills.
- Excellent writing, communication, interpersonal skills.
- Proactive engagement beyond academics participation in initiatives, service, extra-curricular work that demonstrates social impact.
- Computer literacy; ability to work in a team.
3. Citizenship & Other Requirements
- Must be a South African citizen.
- International qualifications must be SAQA-accredited.
- Other standard screening applies: security vetting, possibly psychometric assessments.
Application Date and Process
- All international qualifications must be accompanied by a SAQA accreditation certificate.
- Shortlisted candidates may be required to undergo psychometric assessments.
- The successful candidate will be vetted for security purposes.
- The Commission reserves the right not to fill this position subject to budget, organisational priorities and other considerations
