- Applicants must be at least 21 years of age at the start of service
- Applicants must be a citizen of the country where they apply to serve
- Applicants must have a university degree or equivalent professional experience to apply
- Willingness and ability to serve for the entirety of the service year in rural and remote communities
- Understand that volunteerism is an altruistic act, without expectation of financial gain
