About DSTI–NRF Policy Fellowship Programme

The National Research Foundation (NRF) invites prospective applicants to an information and briefing webinar on the DSTI-NRF Policy Fellowship Programme (Cohort 2).

The programme aims to strengthen the interface between research and policymaking by placing early- and mid-career researchers within designated host institutions, where they can contribute to policy formulation, implementation, analysis and evaluation. Through this opportunity, fellows will gain practical policy experience while developing their skills in evidence-informed policymaking, professional development and cross-sectoral collaboration.

Benefits of DSTI–NRF Policy Fellowship Programme

• Fellowship duration: up to 24 months. 
• Annual funding: R240,000 to R320,000.

DSTI–NRF Policy Fellowship Programme Requirements

Applicants must:

• Hold a doctoral degree obtained within the last 10 years. 
• Be primarily South African citizens or permanent residents. Limited exceptions may be made for international applicants. 
• Be employed by, registered with, or able to secure affiliation with an NRF-recognized research institution.
