About DW Akademie Master’s in International Journalism Programme

Opportunity Details

The MFJI is aimed in particular at media professionals from French-speaking countries that are partners of German development cooperation in North and West Africa. These include Morocco, Tunisia, Senegal, Burkina Faso, Benin and Côte d'Ivoire. Thus, the files of candidates permanently residing in one of these countries will be examined as a priority.

DW Akademie Master’s in International Journalism Programme Requirements

To apply, you must meet the following criteria:

1. Higher education diploma obtained within the last 10 years

To be considered, you must hold a higher education diploma at bachelor's level (i.e. 180 credits, bac+3) or more. Your last degree must be dated less than 10 years old at the close of applications.

Although open to all disciplines, applications for graduates in Information and Communication Sciences will be given special consideration.

2. Professional experience

You must have at least one year's professional experience in the media and/or journalism. Internships, volunteer and volunteering experiences are taken into account. You must provide proof in the form of a certificate of employment or an internship certificate, volunteering or volunteering certificate.

3. Fluency in French: level C1/C2

A valid certification in French at level C1 or C2 (DALF or TCF tout public) must be attached to the application file. Except in cases of exemption, the French test or diploma is mandatory.

The following are exempt from the French test:

  • Candidates holding a French baccalaureate (obtained in France or in an AEFE-approved institution).
  • Candidates holding a French higher education diploma obtained in France.
  • Candidates from countries where French is the official language and whose language of diploma and/or work is French (French-speaking curriculum, French-language media, etc.).

It is also appreciated:

  • knowledge of English: level B1 (independent user).

Knowledge of at least B1 level is an asset for studying in Germany and following the courses taught in English. However, English language certification is not required. Do you not have the B1 level at the time of application? If your application is successful, you will be strongly recommended to take an English course in your country of residence before joining the master's degree.
