Opportunity Details
The 2026 Capacity Boost Grant, supported by FBC, aims to build the network’s capacity to accept, store, and distribute food with the ultimate goal of increasing the amount of food available to food-insecure households.
Eligible projects and purchases include:
Refrigeration equipment (fridges, freezers, cooler rooms).
Transportation equipment (cargo vans, refrigerated vehicles, trailers, leases).
Temporary off-site storage (warehouse rental with long-term strategy).
Consultant fees for capacity planning.
Inventory management software and equipment.
Food transformation equipment (large processors, mixers, ovens, vacuum sealers, freeze dryers).
Warehouse equipment (forklifts, pallet jacks).
Minor construction (loading docks, walk-in freezers).
Safe food handling equipment for cold chain maintenance.
Part-time staffing costs to support objectives.
Emergency generators for power outages.
Open to Food Banks Canada’s network:
Affiliate food banks (provincial association members).
Provincial associations.
Food banks/food security organizations in territories and remote northern regions.
Only one application per organization; joint applications allowed if benefits are shared.
Applicants must have at least one staff/volunteer trained in safe food handling.
Organizations with outstanding grant reports are ineligible until reports are submitted.
