About Friends of Princeton University Library Research Grant Program

The Friends of Princeton University Library Research Grant Program is designed to support scholars who want to make use of Princeton’s rare and distinctive collections.

Benefits of Friends of Princeton University Library Research Grant Program

• Grants valued at up to $6,000 plus transportation costs, helping cover travel and living expenses during the research stay.

• Enables scholars from institutions with limited resources to conduct research they might otherwise not afford.

Friends of Princeton University Library Research Grant Program Requirements

• Open to doctoral students, recent doctorates, faculty (tenured/non-tenured), and independent scholars worldwide.

• Preference for applicants whose institutions make it difficult to access Princeton’s resources in person.

• Not open to current Princeton affiliates.

• Previous recipients may reapply, but must justify additional support.

Application Date and Process

• Set up an account in the application system
• Complete application form
• Upload a curriculum vitae or resume (Word or PDF) 
• Upload your Project Narrative (no more than 1,000 words); your narrative should include the relevance to the proposed research of the unique resources found in the Princeton University Library collections 
• Provide two letters of recommendation; invitations are sent directly from the system to the recommenders
• Submit your application once all of the items above are received.
