The Fulbright-Nehru Doctoral Research Fellowships are designed to build long-term capacity to address global challenges and develop innovative solutions in key priority areas in both India and the U.S. They encourage proposals that are futuristic, innovative and technology focused.
Selected scholars receive:
J-1 visa sponsorship
Monthly stipend for living expenses
Round-trip economy class airfare
Accident and sickness coverage per U.S. government exchange guidelines
Applicable allowances and modest affiliation fees if required
Who Can Apply:
Indian nationals registered for a Ph.D. at an Indian institution on or before 1 November 2025
Doctoral research that requires U.S.-based resources or collaborations
Expected thesis submission at least three months after fellowship completion
Researchers or academicians working in institutions such as CSIR, ICAR, DRDO, ISRO, ICMR, DBT, DST labs, BARC, IISc, IITs, or other centrally funded universities.
Exclusions:
Civil servants employed by the Government of India or state governments, including IAS, IPS, IRS, and IFS officers
Fellowship support does not cover dependents or family members
