The Fund for Investigative Journalism provides grants and other support for reporters to produce high-quality, unbiased, nonpartisan investigative stories that have an impact.
Regular Grants: Up to $10,000, reviewed 3–4 times per year.
Next deadline: January 26, 2026.
Seed Grants: Up to $2,500 for early-stage reporting (e.g., open-records requests, initial trips).
Next deadline: January 29, 2026.
Follow-up Grants: Up to $2,500 for continued coverage of previously funded investigations.
Regular Grants for Previous Seed Recipients: Up to $10,000, rolling review.
Diversity Fellowship
Open to all journalists worldwide.
Freelancers receive the majority of grants.
Journalists from traditional and nonprofit media organizations are also eligible.
