About Government of Canada POLAR Northern Resident Scholarship
The POLAR Northern Resident Scholarship is an annual graduate scholarship offered by Polar Knowledge Canada (POLAR) to support students who have lived in Northern Canada and are actively engaged in Northern or Arctic research.The scholarship is designed to strengthen northern research capacity by supporting students with lived Northern experience whose academic work contributes to deeper understanding of Arctic and Northern regions through field-based, interdisciplinary research.

Government of Canada POLAR Northern Resident Scholarship Requirements
The applicant must:
- be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada,
- be a resident of Nunavut, Northwest Territories, Yukon, or Inuit Nunangat (henceforth referred to as northern residents) for 3 or more years at the time of the application,
- be enrolled full-time in a doctoral or Master's program at a recognized university at the time of application and over the tenure of the award,
- be engaged in Northern or Arctic research culminating in a thesis, major paper, publication, or a similar output,
- demonstrate a commitment to polar studies, and
- conduct fieldwork between May (in the year the award is granted) and the following March.
