About Government of India 89th Know India Programme for Diaspora Youth

The Know India Programme (KIP) is an initiative of the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, designed to strengthen connections between India and its global diaspora.The programme gives young people of Indian origin an opportunity to experience India beyond its cultural heritage. Participants learn about the country’s contemporary economic, scientific, technological, and social development while exploring India’s diverse traditions and communities.

Benefits of Government of India 89th Know India Programme for Diaspora Youth

Under the programme guidelines, selected participants travel as official guests of the Government of India:

  • Travel Support: The Ministry of External Affairs covers 90% of the return international airfare, with the remaining 10% borne by the participant.
  • Full Local Hospitality: The government provides comprehensive domestic arrangements, including twin-sharing hotel accommodation, internal travel (via Volvo AC coaches), airport transfers, and gratis visas issued by Indian diplomatic missions.
  • Certification: Upon submission of a 750–1,000 word analytical report detailing their academic and cultural insights, participants will receive a Certificate of Participation at a formal valedictory session.

Government of India 89th Know India Programme for Diaspora Youth Requirements

  • Target Age Group: 18 to 23 years for the ‘Scholars & Innovators’ edition (determined as on the first day of the commencement month).
  • Minimum Educational Qualification:
    • Scholars & Innovators (18-23 years): Class XII / High School graduation from a recognised school/institution.
    • Young Professionals (24-28 years): Graduation degree from a recognised university or institute.
  • Language Proficiency: Must be proficient in spoken English, having either studied English at the high school level or completed undergraduate education with English as the medium of instruction.
  • Target Diaspora & Preference:
    • Open to Persons of Indian Origin (PIOs), Overseas Citizens of India (OCIs), and Non-Resident Indians (NRIs).
    • Special preference is given to first-time visitors to India, applicants from Girmitiya countries, and NRIs residing in the Gulf region.
  • Prior Participation Rule: Applicants must not have previously attended any edition of the Know India Programme or any other program funded by the Government of India or State Governments.
  • Documentation Required: Valid passport, proof of PIO/OCI/NRI status (or an attested undertaking of Indian origin), medical fitness certificate, and international travel/medical insurance.
