About Harpswell Leadership Residency Program
Harpswell Leadership Residency is a professional volunteer residency in Cambodia where Leadership Residents support, mentor, teach, and live alongside Cambodian Women’s Leadership students and alumnae. Harpswell Leadership Residency places volunteers in Phnom Penh for four to eight months to refine professional interests, develop leadership skills, and engage in hands-on social impact.The program is run by Harpswell and based in Harpswell’s leadership centers in Phnom Penh. Residents join the Harpswell sisterhood and alumnae network, teach the Core Curriculum, facilitate critical thinking discussions, tutor English, host office hours, and plan cultural activities.
Benefits of Harpswell Leadership Residency Program
- A stipend of LR: $330 USD and LR Fellow: $420 USD per month.
- Full room and board at the Harpswell leadership centers in Phnom Penh, including daily Khmer meals.
- Full travel insurance for the duration of the 4-to-8-month residency.
- Program-sponsored provincial homestays with Cambodian students’ families.
- Leadership Residents will have an opportunity to develop their professional skills through hands-on experience.
- Commitment term of four to eight months, beginning between May-August or November-February.
- Experience Khmer culture, celebrate traditional holidays, and participate in cultural activities outside the leadership centers.
Harpswell Leadership Residency Program Requirements
- Applicants must be international women who are university graduates.
- Candidates should be committed to social change and women empowerment.
- Applicants should have interest in cross-cultural learning and discovery.
- Candidates should be self-motivated and be able to work independently.
- Applicants must have excellent spoken and written English language skills (teaching experience is a plus).
- Applicants should be willing to work non-traditional hours (evenings and weekends).
