About Imperial College London President's PhD scholarships

The President’s PhD Scholarships at Imperial College London for the 2027 academic year offer a fully funded PhD program for up to 50 candidates worldwide. The scholarship provides full tuition funding, an annual living stipend, research consumables funding, and access to professional development opportunities throughout the PhD program. 

Benefits of Imperial College London President's PhD scholarships

Each of the 50 scholarships available provides the following support during the 3.5 years of study:

  • Full funding for tuition fees
  • A stipend of £27,036 (2027-28 rate) per annum to assist with living costs 
  • A consumables fund of £2,000 per annum for the first 3 years of study
  • A programme of bespoke opportunities and events delivered by the Early Career Researcher Institute (ECRI)

You will also have access to the full range of support available to postgraduates at Imperial, including tailored support for disabled and international students, and the wider Early Career Researcher Institute Learning and development courses.

Imperial College London President's PhD scholarships Requirements

  • Open to candidates worldwide; no nationality restrictions.
  • Requires a first-class undergraduate degree or a distinction at Master’s level.
  • Departments may consider “special case” applicants with extenuating circumstances.
  • Non-traditional academic/career pathways with strong research potential are encouraged.
  • Only open to new PhD applicants; current PhD students at Imperial are not eligible

Application Date and Process

  • No separate scholarship form; apply via Imperial’s online admissions system.
  • Must secure agreement from a supervisor before applying.
  • Personal statement: 2 pages (motivations + research proposal).
  • Two academic referees required (not your proposed supervisor).
  • Select the scholarship option in the funding section of the application
