About KWI International Fellowship

The KWI International Fellowship 2027 in Germany offers a fully funded 6-month research stay at the Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) in Essen.

The Institute for Advanced Study in the Humanities (KWI) is an interdisciplinary research institute located in the Ruhr Area, Germany. It focuses on innovative research in areas such as science studies, visual literacy, and aesthetic practices. KWI is part of the University Alliance Ruhr, linking the universities of Duisburg-Essen, Bochum, and Dortmund, and offers a vibrant academic environment with opportunities for collaboration.

KWI International Fellowship Requirements

  • Completed PhD in the humanities or social sciences
  • Up to six years of postdoctoral experience (R2 level of the European Framework for Research Careers)
  • PhD completed in 2021 or later (for this call)
  • Open to researchers from around the world; German nationals eligible only if currently employed at an international institution
  • Individual researchers only (no group applications)

  • Application must be in English and include a CV, list of publications, PhD certificate, and a project proposal (max. 5,000 characters)
  • Deadline: 17 August 2026, 24:00 (midnight, CET)
