About JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program
The JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program 2026 offers researchers from developing countries an opportunity to conduct advanced research in agriculture, forestry, and fisheries under the supervision of researchers at the Japan International Research Center for Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS). The one-year fellowship will begin in November 2026 and provides research support, travel, living allowance, accommodation, and insurance to selected fellows.

Selected fellows receive several forms of financial and logistical support.
The fellowship provides:
- Round-trip economy-class international airfare.
- Living allowance of JPY 7,700 per day, excluding housing allowance.
- Housing support according to applicable government housing regulations.
- Accommodation in Japan at Tsukuba International House.
- Accommodation arrangements in Thailand according to the relevant local arrangements.
- Overseas travel accident insurance.
The insurance covers eligible expenses related to:
- Injury.
- Sickness.
- Accidental damage.
However, certain conditions are excluded, including chronic diseases, dental treatment, pregnancy, and childbirth.
JIRCAS Visiting Research Fellowship Program Requirements
The fellowship is intended for researchers from developing countries who are actively working in agriculture, forestry, or fisheries research.
Applicants should meet the following requirements:
- Be a citizen of a developing country.
- Currently work at a research organisation or university in their home country.
- Be actively engaged in research related to agriculture, forestry, or fisheries.
- Hold at least a Master’s degree or MSc in a relevant field.
- Have an academic background related to socio-economics, natural sciences, or technology.
- Have research experience relevant to the selected fellowship theme.
- Be able to work exclusively on the selected research theme.
- Have adequate English and/or Japanese language skills.
- Be in good health.
- Obtain endorsement from their employing or affiliated institution.
- Be willing to return to their home country after completing the fellowship.
- Continue research activities at their affiliated institution after returning home.
