Japan International Research Center For Agricultural Sciences (JIRCAS) is currently accepting applications for its Japan International Award for Young Agricultural Researchers 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to click here to learn more about this opportunity and apply for it.
The Japan Award is the prize aiming to increase motivation among young researchers contributing to research and development in agriculture, forestry, fisheries and related industries in developing regions, by awarding young foreign researchers having shown outstanding performance or produced research achievements that may lead to future innovation.
Up to three awardees will be selected.
Each receives:
A testimonial from the Chairman of the AFFRC.
A cash prize of US$5,000 (MOTAI-JIRCAS Award, funded by Mr. Shigeru Motai and supported by JIRCAS).
Winners are invited to Japan for the ceremony.
Candidates must:
Be nationals of a developing country/territory.
Be under 40 years old as of January 1, 2026.
Belong to a non-Japanese research institute or university.
Work in agriculture, forestry, fisheries, or related industries in developing regions.
Past applicants who did not win are eligible to reapply.
Candidates must attend the ceremony in Japan and deliver a lecture.
