About Kyoto University Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program

Under Bai Xian Asia Institute (BXAI), the AFLSP provides a platform on which students and educational institutions in Asia can cultivate lasting relationships, deepen mutual understanding and trust by building bridges across cultures.

Benefits of Kyoto University Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program

  • Students will receive full tuition fee coverage and admission fee exemption through the Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program Kyoto University. 
  • In addition, the AFLSP scholarship provides a monthly stipend to help students cover their living expenses during their studies in Japan. 
  • Moreover, students will participate in leadership development programs and international networking opportunities that strengthen their leadership skills and global connections.

Kyoto University Asian Future Leaders Scholarship Program Requirements

  • First, applicants must belong to one of the eligible Asian countries. 
  • In addition, applicants must demonstrate leadership potential and commitment to promoting cross-cultural understanding. 
  • Students must have a strong academic record and meet the admission requirements of the host university. 
  • Furthermore, applicants must provide proof of English language proficiency such as IELTS or TOEFL if English is not their native language. 
  • Students must show commitment to completing the program and actively participating in AFLSP activities. 

Application Date and Process

  • Scholarship Application Form
  • Research Plan (in any format)
  • Essay on a contemporary key issue in Asia
  • Letter of Recommendation
  • Photograph of the applicant
  • Certificate of English Proficiency (TOEFL iBT, IELTS etc.)
    Those who are unable to submit a certification: English Proficiency Form
  • Copy of the university diploma (If the applicant graduated from a university.)
  • Certificate of enrollment (If the applicant is expecting to graduate from a university)
  • Academic Transcript
  • Declaration of Understanding and Agreement for an International Student Scholarship Application
  • Letter of Admission from a graduate school at Kyoto University (If you are currently enrolled in or have completed a bachelor's degree at a designated institution and cannot obtain the Letter of Admission by the deadline, please state this in your application and submit it as soon as possible.)
  • Copy of Residence Card (both sides) (Only those who live in Japan at the time of application. In case that applicants cannot submit by the deadline, they must submit after entering Japan.)
