About Leeds University Doctoral Scholarships

The Leeds University Doctoral Scholarships 2026 are offered by the University of Leeds to support high-quality doctoral research. These scholarships are based on academic merit and research potential. They are open to students from all fields, so applicants from diverse backgrounds can apply.

Benefits of Leeds University Doctoral Scholarships

  • First of all, the scholarship covers full tuition fees for the entire PhD program in the UK, so students do not need to worry about university fees.
  • Secondly, students receive a maintenance grant of £20,780 per year for full-time study, helping cover living costs in the UK. The grant may increase each year in line with UKRI rates.
  • The scholarship lasts 3.5 years for full-time study, with part-time students receiving funding proportional to their study load.
  • Overall, the Leeds University PhD Scholarships offer strong financial support while allowing students to pursue a world-class doctoral research program.
  • Most importantly, students also gain access to expert faculty, modern research labs, and international collaborations, making this PhD scholarship in the UK for international students an excellent opportunity.

Leeds University Doctoral Scholarships Requirements

  • Firstly, the UK scholarship is open to students from all countries; therefore, international students are welcome to apply.
  • Next, applicants must have a first degree equivalent to a UK first-class honours degree. However, those with lower grades may still apply if they have a Master’s degree with distinction or relevant experience.
  • Additionally, applicants must be classified as UK fee-paying students for tuition purposes.
  • Moreover, candidates must be new postgraduate researchers; consequently, students already enrolled in a PhD program are not eligible.
  • Furthermore, students must meet the University of Leeds’s English language requirements (usually IELTS 6.0 overall, with no part below 5.5, although some schools may require higher scores).
  • Finally, applicants must be able to live within a reasonable distance of the University of Leeds during the scholarship period.
