About MPG African Mentorship Program ARTEMIS
The ARTEMIS mentorship programme of the Max Planck Society aims to build a partnership which fosters career goals through exchange of experience, networking and in terpersonal relationship. This amongst many is what the Max Planck Society’s mentorship programme offers to Partners at MPIs and Fellows at African universities and research institutions.

MPG African Mentorship Program ARTEMIS Requirements
The ARTEMIS programme is open to both mentees (African-based researchers) and mentors (MPI-affiliated researchers), each with specific requirements.
Mentees
Applicants must:
- Be enrolled at a recognized African university or research institution
- Provide proof of enrollment
- Demonstrate proficiency in English (e.g., IELTS score of at least 6.5 or equivalent, where applicable)
- Possess a valid passport or identification
- Show willingness to take on new challenges and responsibilities
Mentors
Applicants must:
- Be PhD candidates or postdoctoral researchers at a Max Planck Institute
- Provide a letter of support from their director or group leader
- Inform their institute’s administration prior to application submission
Application Date and Process
Both mentors and mentees are required to submit:
- A comprehensive curriculum vitae
- A letter of motivation
- A completed programme questionnaire
The questionnaire gathers essential information on:
- Academic background and research focus
- Mentorship goals and expectations
- Communication strategies
- Desired outcomes and contributions to the programme
