National Institute for Materials Science (NIMS) is currently accepting applications for its Internship Program 2026. Interested applicants are encouraged to click here to learn more about this opportunity and apply for it.
This program is designed to provide undergraduate and graduate students from domestic and international universities with practical technical experience in the field of materials science at NIMS. It also aims to increase the visibility of NIMS and its Joint Graduate School Program.
Daily allowance for selected interns.
Accommodation provided (utilities not included).
Transportation support for bachelor’s interns:
One round-trip international flight (home country–Narita/Haneda).
One round-trip highway bus between Tsukuba and airport.
Access to world-class research facilities.
Direct mentorship by NIMS researchers.
International networking opportunities.
Must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student.
Academic background in materials science or related fields.
Agreement from a NIMS researcher to host the internship.
Compliance with conditions of external scholarships (if applicable).
Able to complete internship within allowed duration.
Search for a host researcher via NIMS Researchers Directory (SAMURAI).
Contact one preferred researcher by email (not multiple).
Send required documents directly to the researcher.
Researcher submits application to NIMS.
Await screening results (communicated by researcher).
