About NTNU - Vocal Biomarkers Scholarship

The Vocal Biomarkers Scholarship 2026 in Norway offers a fully funded PhD position at NTNU focusing on the acoustics of the voice for health applications. The project addresses how subtle changes in voice production can serve as early signs of disease, using interpretable signal processing and physical modelling. The candidate will record, analyze and process voice and speech signals, develop physical and numerical models, and publish in international journals.

The Department of Electronic Systems is Norway’s leading academic environment in electronic systems, covering signal processing, acoustics, and health-related research. The selected candidate will join the Acoustics group and the interdisciplinary Connection research group, collaborating with national and international partners in voice, speech and health.

NTNU - Vocal Biomarkers Scholarship Requirements

  • A relevant Master’s degree in acoustics, signal processing, physics, mathematics, computer science, or another relevant technical/quantitative discipline; Master’s students can apply but the degree must be obtained and documented before starting
  • Education must correspond to a five-year Norwegian degree programme with 120 credits obtained at master’s level
  • Solid background in mathematics or physics, and good programming skills (e.g., Python or MATLAB)
  • Meet the requirements for admission to the Faculty’s PhD program in Electronics and Telecommunication
  • Strong academic background with an average grade equal to B or better compared to NTNU’s grading scale; weaker grades may be considered if particularly suitable for PhD education
  • Good oral and written English skills
