About NITMB Fellows Program

NITMB Fellows Program supports early-career scientists trained in mathematics, theoretical disciplines, and/or biology to conduct independent, interdisciplinary research in mathematical biology with full support for up to three years.

The program is run by NITMB and provides fellows access to NITMB resources and both Northwestern and UChicago campuses, mentorship from NITMB leadership and faculty, and offices at the John Hancock Center in Chicago.

NITMB Fellows Program Requirements

  • Applicants will need to have completed a doctoral degree by September 1, 2027 in one of the following fields: Mathematical and Physical Sciences
  • Biological Sciences
  • Computer Science
  • Engineering
  • or related fields
  • This position is open to individuals less than seven years post-attainment of their Ph.D. degree.

Application Date and Process

  • Upload the following documents to the submission portal starting September 1, 2026.
  • Cover letter (1 page)
  • Curriculum vitae (2-3 pages)
  • Description of research interests to be pursued at the NITMB, including potential collaborators (4-5 pages)
  • List of publications and preprints (separate from CV)
  • Three letters of recommendation from faculty members or senior research scientists who are active in the field of study in question
  • For full consideration, applications must be submitted by November 15, 2026.
