About Ontario Arts Council - Media Artists Creation Projects

The Media Artists Grant Program provides funding to individual professional media artists and directors based in Ontario who are producing independent, artist-controlled media projects.

The program supports creative works that demonstrate innovation in content, artistic vision, storytelling, style, technique, or production process while encouraging the professional development of media artists. It focuses on independent artistic creation rather than commercial media production and seeks to promote diversity and gender parity alongside the Ontario Arts Council’s priority groups.

Benefits of Ontario Arts Council - Media Artists Creation Projects

Funding is available as follows:

• Emerging Artist: Up to $10,000.
• Mid-Career & Established Artist: Up to $40,000.

Applicants must ensure their total project budget remains within the applicable category limit.

Ontario Arts Council - Media Artists Creation Projects Requirements

• Directors/principal media artists who: 
  • reside in Ontario
  • have completed the requisite number of independent works for their applicant type (emerging, mid-career or established – see Definitions)
  • are taking their own initiative and making their own decisions about the work to be created
  • work with or without a producer
  • hold copyright over the proposed work
    • Contracts with producers or other funders must not require that the artist give up such control, even if they are arranged after confirmation of OAC support.
