About Robert Koch Institute GOARN Berlin Fellowship Programme

The GOARN Berlin Fellowship Programme offers a six-months project-based fellowship for future public health leaders from GOARN partner institutions. It aims to foster professional growth, strengthen the capacity of fellows’ home institutions, and enhance institutional collaboration across the GOARN network. The programme is a collaboration of the WHO Collaborating Centre for GOARN at the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), the WHO Hub for Pandemic and Epidemic Preparedness (WHO Hub) and the Global outbreak Alert and Response Network (GOARN) Operational Support Team (OST).

Benefits of Robert Koch Institute GOARN Berlin Fellowship Programme

  • Berlin Track:

    • Monthly stipend: €1,900.

    • Project budget: up to €15,000.

    • Accommodation, travel, and laptop provided.

    • Duty travel (including Geneva closing ceremony) covered under German regulations.

    • Fellows must arrange health and liability insurance.

    • Administrative delays may affect stipend timing.

  • Country Track:

    • Fellows continue working at their home institutions.

    • Financial support and mentorship provided.

    • Travel expectations vary depending on project needs.

Robert Koch Institute GOARN Berlin Fellowship Programme Requirements

Applicant requirements:

  • Affiliation with a GOARN partner institution or technical network 
  • University degree (Master's level or higher) in medicine, public health, epidemiology, veterinary, laboratory sciences, environmental sciences and/or a relevant field
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional experience in the fields of public health intelligence, collaborative surveillance and/or health emergency response activities
  • English language proficiency at C1 level or equivalent (No formal certificate required). Proficiency in German is not required.
  • An institutional support letter from the applicant’s GOARN partner institution is required. If the home institution is not a GOARN member but the applicant is affiliated with a GOARN technical network, a support letter from both the home institution and network will be requested.
