About Royal Commonwealth Society - The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition
The Commonwealth represents one of the most varied international communities in the world, stretching across continents and encompassing a rich mix of cultures, languages, landscapes and generations. Its members range from small island nations to expansive countries, each shaped by unique histories and experiences. Despite these differences, they are connected by meaningful common ground: shared principles, mutual challenges and collective aspirations for the future.
Benefits of Royal Commonwealth Society - The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition
- All entrants and all participating schools receive a Certificate of Participation and a winner from each region of the Commonwealth, which an overall winner will be drawn from, win a trip to London for a week of educational and cultural events.
- The winners and their families are rewarded with a week of cultural and literary activities in the UK arranged by the Royal Commonwealth Society. The week culminates with an Award Ceremony at Buckingham Palace, kindly hosted by The Queen. Her Majesty also includes The Queen’s Commonwealth Essay Competition into her overseas visits, where she meets entrants and presents local winners with their certificates.
Royal Commonwealth Society - The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition Requirements
- The Competition is open to nationals or residents of all Commonwealth countries and territories.
- Entries must be written in English.
- Entrants to the Competition must be under 18 years old or younger on the deadline of 30 April 2026.
- Uploaded entries must not include the entrant’s personal details (e.g., name, age, school, etc.). This information is to be entered solely on the official online form, and NOT as part of your written submission.
- Entries must adhere to the maximum word count of 1,000 words. Exceeding the word limit will result in automatic disqualification
