About Screen Australia - First Nations Feature Development Program
The First Nations Feature Development program aims to nurture the talents of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander filmmakers by providing financial support for the development of feature-length screenplays. The program seeks projects that offer striking and engaging storytelling capable of connecting with diverse audiences.
Benefits of Screen Australia - First Nations Feature Development Program
- Funding Amount: Up to $30,000, or up to $45,000 if a producer is attached.
- Use of Funds: Can be used for the first or subsequent draft of a feature screenplay, including fees for writers, producers, directors, and story consultants.
Screen Australia - First Nations Feature Development Program Requirements
- Applicant Types: Producers, writers, or writer/directors.
- Mandatory Requirements:
- The director (if attached) and writer must be Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Australians.
- Must have at least three ‘eligible drama credits’ in their respective roles.
- Co-writing Teams: Must demonstrate that the original concept originates from the First Nations Australian writer.
- Producer Requirements: Must be an experienced producer or have at least two ‘eligible drama credits,’ or be an emerging producer applying with an experienced producer.
