About SEStran People and Place Grant Fund

The SEStran People and Place Grant Fund provides funding to public bodies, charities, and community organisations to implement projects that promote active and sustainable travel across the region. The fund emphasizes behaviour change through targeted interventions identified in the People and Place Delivery Plan.

Benefits of SEStran People and Place Grant Fund

  • The grant fund will support projects with a minimum value of £50,000.

SEStran People and Place Grant Fund Requirements

Eligible applicants must be organisations capable of delivering significant behaviour change initiatives, including:

  • Public bodies, charities, and community organisations (local authorities are excluded)

  • Demonstrated experience in sustainable transport behaviour change projects

  • Evidence of appropriate governance, financial management, insurance coverage, and project team competence

  • Organisations seeking onward funding must meet the same eligibility requirements

Specific community organisation requirements include:

  • A signed constitution

  • Minimum of three unrelated board members

  • Valid public liability insurance

  • Financial solvency supported by recent accounts

  • Project team of at least two people responsible for project delivery, finance, and administration

Project Requirements

  • Projects must have a minimum value of £50,000 to ensure sufficient scale and regional impact

  • Must fall within one or more predefined scopes set out in the People and Place Delivery Plan

  • Coherent projects spanning multiple scopes must submit a single application indicating funding allocation across scopes

  • Projects must demonstrate full inclusivity and accessibility with clear consideration of equality, diversity, and inclusion principles

Application Date and Process

Applications are made through our new online portal.

To apply for funding, you must first create an account. To do this:

  1. Enter your organisation’s email address under where it says ‘Log in or register’
  2. You will then be prompted to enter a 6 digit code which will be in an email sent to this email address. This can take a few minutes and sometimes goes to spam/junk folders.
  3. You will then be asked to provide the required details, including your name and organisation name.
  4. You will be asked to create a password and accept the portal’s terms and conditions. Please note you must agree to receive notification emails to receive updates on your application.

After activation, you can log in at any time to start, save, and submit your application(s). Before you apply, ensure you have read our main grant fund application guidance.
