About SEARCA Seed Fund for Research and Training

The Seed Fund for Research and Training (SFRT) is designed to provide start-up funding to Southeast Asian researchers and scientists working on innovative ideas related to agricultural and rural development.Many promising research concepts fail to progress because researchers do not have access to the initial funding required to test, develop, or validate their ideas.SFRT seeks to address this funding gap by providing early-stage financial support for research and training initiatives with the potential to develop into larger programs.

  • SFRT provides grants of up to: USD 15,000 per project

The funding is intended as start-up support for innovative concepts that have potential to grow into larger-scale research or training programs.

SEARCA Seed Fund for Research and Training Requirements

  • The program is intended to support researchers and scientists from Southeast Asia working on innovative agricultural and rural development initiatives.
  • Applicants should develop proposals that are relevant to the needs and priorities of agricultural and rural development in the region.
  • The proposal should clearly demonstrate the applicant’s ability to implement the proposed research or training project.

Application Date and Process

  • New applicants must register through the Grants Information System to create an account.
  • Once registered, fill out the online form and upload a copy of all required documents.
  • Complete the online form and upload the following documents in English:
    • Letter of request addressed to the SEARCA Center Director;
    • Official endorsement from the employer (if employed);
    • Budgetary requirement for the entire project proposal;
    • Letter from the applicant certifying that he/she is not receiving any other research grant from any other institution. If partial funding has been obtained from other sources, the applicant must submit a certification from the funding agency indicating the grant amount and items covered by the grant, as well as proof that there will be no conflict with the funding agency when applying for another funding; and
    • Research timetable indicating the activities involved in the research and the expected date of completion which should not exceed one year.
