The Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) is committed to addressing emergent social, cultural, economic, and political challenges in Asia through interdisciplinary, problem-oriented, policy-relevant, and comparative studies and publications. The lab is housed at Shorenstein APARC under the directorship of Professor Gi-Wook Shin. It focuses on four research themes: “Talent Flows and Development,” “Nationalism and Racism,” “U.S.-Asia Relations,” and “Democratic Crisis and Reform.”
Benefits of Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) Fellowships
- Each fellow will be offered an annual salary of $80,000 plus benefits. Postdoctoral fellows are required to be in residence at the Center for the duration of the appointment and are expected to participate in Center and Lab activities throughout the academic year.
- Additional privileges include access to Stanford research facilities and the opportunity to participate in events at the Freeman Spogli Institute for International Studies and elsewhere on campus.
Stanford Next Asia Policy Lab (SNAPL) Fellowships Requirements
- Open to scholars with a strong interest in interdisciplinary research and policy engagement on contemporary Asia.
- The Lab is particularly interested in scholars who are enthusiastic about collaborating closely with other Lab members across diverse thematic areas.
Application Date and Process
Candidates interested in becoming postdoctoral fellows at SNAPL must complete the following:

- A formal letter of request detailing their relevant research and experiences related to one of the research themes, including plans for solo and collaborative, co-authored publications;
- A formal and complete academic CV, including a list of publications.
