The award is structured into three strands, each supporting different stages of theatre development.

The award is open to professional artists and organisations with a demonstrable track record in theatre practice. Strands 1 and 2 are open to applicants based on the island of Ireland, while Strand 3 is open only to applicants based in the Republic of Ireland.
