About BAICE Compare Fellowship

Compare is a leading journal of international and comparative education, publishing eight issues a year of high-quality articles on diverse issues of educational policy and practice around the world. It is the official journal of the British Association for International and Comparative Education (BAICE), which works to support activities of research, teaching and collaboration in the field.

Benefits of BAICE Compare Fellowship

The programme provides full funding to enable the fellow to participate in key academic activities in the UK. This includes:

  • Attendance and presentation at the UKFIET Conference (details to be confirmed)
  • Participation in the Compare Writers’ Workshop, a full-day training designed for early career researchers
  • A 1–2 week academic residency in the UK, allowing the fellow to:
    • Conduct library-based research
    • Attend seminars and academic events
    • Collaborate with scholars and mentors
    • Develop ideas for publication

All major costs are covered, including travel, accommodation, conference registration, and subsistence.

BAICE Compare Fellowship Requirements

  • To be based currently in a university in a low-income country (according to the World Bank classification
  • To have completed their doctoral degree within the last six years
  • To be teaching or researching in the field of education

Application Date and Process

All applicants should send the following documents by email to [email protected]

  • CV / resume (max. 3 pages including qualifications, professional experience and publications)

•  Supporting statement (max. 1200 words) that addresses the following:

1. Research profile: Outline your research interests, publication trajectory to date, and future research plans.

2. Indicative conference presentation (e.g. UKFIET 2027): Provide brief, exploratory ideas for a potential presentation, including:

  • a proposed topic or research question
  • the theoretical or conceptual framing o the methodological approach (e.g. data sources, methods, or research design)
  • the methodological approach (e.g. data sources, methods, or research design)
  • the potential contribution or significance of the work

This is intended to show the direction of your thinking rather than a fully developed abstract. Please note that the presentation should be aligned with the aims and ethos of BAICE.

3. Fellowship impact: Reflect briefly on the potential benefits of the fellowship for yourself and for your institution and/or country.

If contact has already been made with a potential institution and mentor in the UK, then candidates should state this; however, it is not essential to have arranged this beforehand as support will be given for this.
