About CSR Mid-Career Biodefense Bootcamp Fellowship

The CSR Mid-Career Biodefense Bootcamp Fellowship is a six-month, part-time program designed for mid-career professionals in biodefense, public health, and related fields. It provides fellows with advanced training, mentorship, and networking to strengthen leadership in biosecurity.

Benefits of CSR Mid-Career Biodefense Bootcamp Fellowship

  • Fellows benefit from immersive bootcamp sessions, mentorship from senior experts, and opportunities to contribute to strategic biodefense initiatives.

CSR Mid-Career Biodefense Bootcamp Fellowship Requirements

  • Eligibility: The Fellowship is open to a broad range of applicants. This includes individuals who are at the mid-career stage with a strong background and history of working in the national security, global health, or international relations space; people with medical, legal, or other professional backgrounds; and those with a graduate degree (or who are progressing through a graduate program) and have a demonstrable interest or passion in analyzing and addressing biological threats. While some biological risk knowledge is helpful, it is not necessary to participate in this fellowship. Indeed, this fellowship may be an opportunity for individuals who have worked in an adjacent field in a different capacity but find themselves drawn to work more focused on addressing biological threats. Generally, we define mid-career as those with 10+ years of professional and/or advanced academic experience, though this is not an absolute rule. Prioritization will focus on applicants from citizens of NATO member states and NATO’s four official Indo-Pacific partners (Australia, Japan, New Zealand, and the Republic of Korea).
  • Location & Travel: Fellows may work from any geographic location with strong internet access to participate in the virtual course and access additional materials for this fellowship. Fellows must also commit to attending one of the 2.5-day, in-person workshops in 2026 (date to be determined). Travel costs will be covered by CSR.
  • Requirements: We estimate that the activities and virtual course discussed above will require approximately 80 hours, divided between working through the accessible lectures and other materials and fully committing to a 2.5-day in-person bootcamp. CSR will maintain access to the online lessons for fellowship participants, so that the resource can be reviewed and leveraged at any time in the future.
