The Centers of Excellence programme is a flagship research funding initiative by the Danish National Research Foundation designed to support exceptional research teams working on ambitious scientific questions.The programme provides long-term funding for research centers based at Danish institutions, primarily universities.

The Danish National Research Foundation Centers of Excellence Program for Ambitious Research Requirements
The programme supports research units located at Danish institutions.
Eligible applicants include:
- Researchers affiliated with Danish universities.
- Research teams based at eligible Danish research institutions.
- Established researchers capable of leading large-scale research initiatives.
Applicants must demonstrate:
- A clear scientific vision.
- Strong leadership ability.
- Capacity to build and manage a research center.
- Potential to create an internationally competitive research environment.
Application Date and Process
The application process is two-staged and consists overall of:
- Pree-proposals which are processed by the board with the involvement of peer advisors. The decision on which applicants are invited to submit a full application is made solely by the board.
- Full applications that are sent for external peer review to three international experts. Prior to the final decision, applicants are offered the opportunity to comment on the peer reviews and the board conducts an interview with each applicant.
