- New in 2026: The grant amount totals $1,000,000 (USD) distributed evenly over four (4) years ($250,000 USD per year).
- Budget limits are inclusive of both direct and indirect costs, with indirect costs allowed up to 10% of the direct costs and included in the total grant amount.
- Emerging Leader Awards are granted to a single investigator; co-investigators are not permitted. The award may be used to support projects carried out with collaborators, who may provide letters of support.
The Mark Foundation for Cancer Emerging Leader Award Requirements
The programme is open globally, with no restrictions based on nationality or geographic location, making it accessible to researchers worldwide.
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Hold an MD, PhD, or equivalent qualification
- Be affiliated with a non-profit academic or research institution
- Have established an independent laboratory between 2018 and 2023
- Demonstrate independence through:
- Dedicated lab space
- Authority to hire research staff
- Eligibility to apply for grants as a principal investigator
In addition, applicants must already have ongoing independent funding that supports the core operations of their laboratory beyond this award.
