About The Salters' Fellowship

Opportunity Details

The University of Liverpool and the Worshipful Company of Salters are delighted to offer the Salters’ Fellowship, to support a postgraduate student with a background in Chemistry to pursue postgraduate education. The scholarship will support students from socio-economically underrepresented backgrounds.

The Worshipful Company of Salters has its origins in the salt trade of medieval London, as one of the Great 12 Livery Companies. Today, The Salters’ Company is a diverse organisation, responsible for several charitable foundations, important philanthropic work in science education and the fostering of fellowship among its members. The Salters’ Company is dedicated to excellence in chemistry education, civic life and charitable giving.

Benefits of The Salters' Fellowship

  • The award is a £10,000 contribution to tuition fees, available for one student in the 2025/26 academic year.

The Salters' Fellowship Requirements

Applicants must meet all of the below criteria:

  1. Be permanently resident in the UK
  2. Have graduated from an undergraduate degree in Chemistry. This includes chemical engineering and biochemistry degrees
  3. Have accepted a place at the University of Liverpool on an eligible postgraduate course, to commence study in the 2025/26 academic year. Eligible postgraduate courses are one year taught masters’ degrees in a complementary subject. Please see below for information on what qualifies as a complementary subject
  4. This must be your first postgraduate degree and you must not already hold an equivalent qualification
  5. You must have made an application to Student Finance England (or equivalent body) for a Postgraduate Masters’ Loan
  6. You must have been assessed for fee status as a ‘Home’ student, or expect to be assessed as a ‘Home’ student
  7. Have been considered a student from a widening participation background during your undergraduate degree. Please see below for information on what qualifies as a widening participation background.
