About Shackleton Foundation Seed Funding
The Shackleton Foundation was established in 2007 by descendants of members of Sir Ernest Shackleton’s Antarctic expeditions. Its funding programme is designed for early-stage social entrepreneurs who have bold ideas for addressing challenges faced by disadvantaged and socially marginalised young people.
Benefits of Shackleton Foundation Seed Funding
- Successful applicants can receive up to £15,000.
Shackleton Foundation Seed Funding Requirements
The programme is primarily intended for individuals establishing new organisations that have a clear social purpose and benefit disadvantaged young people in the UK.
Applicants must generally meet the following conditions:
- Be establishing a new organisation or social venture.
- The organisation must generally be no more than 12 months old.
- Have a clear focus on disadvantaged children and young people aged 0–25.
- Operate for the benefit of young people in the United Kingdom.
- Demonstrate a clearly identified social need.
- Present an innovative or high-potential solution.
- Demonstrate potential for measurable social impact.
- Show how the venture can develop and become sustainable.
- Request funding equivalent to at least 25% of the total annual project cost.
Eligible organisational structures can include:
- Registered charities
- Community Interest Companies (CICs)
- Charitable Incorporated Organisations (CIOs)
- Other suitable social enterprises with appropriate asset locks or mission statements
