The Paul L. Busch Award recognizes individuals conducting research that drives measurable improvements in water quality and the water environment. The program prioritizes work that demonstrates innovation, creative problem-solving, practical applicability, and the potential for meaningful environmental benefits.
Grant Amount: $100,000
Support Coverage: Travel and accommodation expenses for the award ceremony will be reimbursed
Endowment: Supported by the Endowment for Innovation in Applied Water Quality Research, which has provided $2.5 million to emerging researchers
Open to individual researchers conducting water quality research
Applicants may self-nominate or be nominated by others
No restrictions on race, gender, citizenship, or nationality
Research must be conducted in conjunction with a U.S.-based firm, university, or organization
Ineligible applicants include employees or members of The Water Research Foundation, Board members, Research Advisory Council members, Tailored Collaboration Review Committee members, Paul L. Busch Award Selection and Steering Committee members, and their immediate families
