About TWAS-SISSA-Lincei Research Cooperation Visits Program for Scientists of LDC
UNESCO-TWAS, in collaboration with the Lincei Academy and the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA), offers young scientists from Least Developed Countries the opportunity to visit either research laboratories at Centres of Excellence in Trieste or Udine, Italy.

TWAS-SISSA-Lincei Research Cooperation Visits Program for Scientists of LDC Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Applicants must hold an MSc (or higher degree).
- Must be 40 years old or younger by 31 December of the application year
- Must be a national of a least developed country (LDC)
- Must hold a research position in an LDC
- Priority goes to sustainability science projects
- Women scientists are encouraged to apply
- Applicants already in the host country are not eligible
- Only applications in specified scientific fields will be considered
Required Documents:
Applicants must provide these documents:
- Completed and signed the application form.
- Passport copy (only personal details page, even if expired).
- Applicant’s CV.
- Statement on scientific interests and future research plans, referencing likely SDG contributions.
- Complete list of publications (no article reprints).
- Copy of MSc (or higher) certificate.
- A recent invitation letter from an eligible host lab confirms the timing (3 months) and agreed research plan.
- Two recently signed recommendation letters (submitted directly by referees).
Application Date and Process
- Review the host university’s webpage to identify potential research areas and potential host supervisors.
- Contact a potential host supervisor to introduce yourself and discuss the research plan for a possible visit.
- Obtain an acceptance letter from the potential host supervisor once an agreement has been reached.
