About U.S. Embassy Managua Fulbright TEA

The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement (TEA) Program brings international secondary-level educators to the United States for six weeks to enhance professional skills and engage in cross-cultural exchange. The program combines academic seminars at a host university with hands-on classroom observation and teaching in local secondary schools. Participants gain exposure to U.S. teaching practices while contributing their own professional expertise.

U.S. Embassy Managua Fulbright TEA Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. 
  • Citizen of Nicaragua teaching in Nicaragua. 
  • Current secondary level (middle and high school), full-time teacher of English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), math, science, foreign language, social studies, journalism, communications, and special education at institutions serving primarily a local population.  Teachers responsible for teaching additional grade levels must teach middle or high school students more than 50% of their work time to be eligible. 
  • Minimum of three years of experience of full-time teaching by the start of program, with a preference for those who have completed at least five years of full-time experience. 
  • Demonstrated verbal and written English language proficiency. 
  • Full-time teacher trainers are not eligible.
