About UNITAR Multilateral Diplomacy Programme

The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) is offering a traineeship opportunity within its Multilateral Diplomacy Programme (MDP) at its headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. This traineeship is designed for students and recent graduates interested in gaining professional experience in a multicultural environment and enhancing their understanding of the United Nations system.The programme develops and delivers high-quality training activities in partnership with governments, universities, and international organizations. Activities include field visits, online training programmes, advisory services, special projects, and the creation of training tools and publications.

Benefits of UNITAR Multilateral Diplomacy Programme

  • Selected trainees will work full-time for three months, with the possibility of extending up to six months. While the traineeship is unpaid, participants will receive a monthly lump sum of CHF 900 to cover transportation and miscellaneous costs.

UNITAR Multilateral Diplomacy Programme Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be currently enrolled in an undergraduate, graduate, or postgraduate degree in fields such as international relations, education, history, law, political science, or languages
  • Or be a recent graduate (within two years of graduation) from the aforementioned disciplines
  • Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills
  • Have experience in organizing field visits, events, or online training programmes
  • Possess excellent social and interpersonal skills
  • Have knowledge of the United Nations system and international affairs
  • Uphold UN values including cooperation, respect, and solidarity
