About UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship
The United Nations Office for Disarmament Affairs (UNODA) in Geneva is delighted to launch a call for applications to the Fourth Edition of the Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship. Since its establishment as a Biosecurity Diplomacy Workshop in 2019, the programme has engaged over 140 young scientists through an innovative and engaging training course. 20 competitively selected young scientists from the Global South will take part in a series of interactive webinars prior to an in-person visit during the meeting of the BWC Working Group on the Strengthening of the Convention in Geneva in August 2026.
Benefits of UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship
- First, applicants receive a fully funded visit to Geneva, Switzerland, to attend the on-site Working Group meeting on strengthening the Convention.
- In addition, fellows complete a one-month online pre–Working Group workshop before the field visit.
- Moreover, participants engage in small-group discussions with leading experts in disarmament, biosecurity, biosafety, and health security.

UNODA Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship Requirements
- First, applicants must be under 35 years of age at the time they apply for the Youth for Biosecurity Fellowship.
- In addition, applicants must hold citizenship of a BWC State Party classified as a least-developed, low-income, or upper-middle-income country. You can check your country’s status on the OECD list.
- Moreover, applicants must hold an advanced degree in the life sciences or a related field from a recognized university or institution.
- However, applicants with degrees in other fields, such as social sciences, may apply if they demonstrate a strong interest in biosecurity, health security, disarmament, or non-proliferation.
- Furthermore, applicants must demonstrate strong written and spoken English proficiency.
- Finally, female applicants are strongly encouraged to apply for this fully funded fellowship.
