Talented, creative and newly promoted researchers can now apply for a Veni grant. This funding instrument of the NWO Talent Programme offers person-specific funding.
Veni is for researchers who have recently graduated. Researchers eligible for a Veni grant have academic qualities that clearly exceed what is usual. The Veni grant is intended to fund innovative scientific research and thereby give these researchers the opportunity to develop as independent researchers.

The funding amounts to a maximum of €320,000.
Veni Round Grants for Researchers Requirements
- Applications can be submitted by PhD researchers with permanent or temporary employment, from home or abroad.
- The 2025 Veni round is open to researchers with a PhD date after 1 January 2022 and before 2 September 2025.
Application Date and Process
- Applicants must submit a pre-proposal to be considered for a Veni. In the pre-proposal the ‘quality of the researcher’ (100%) is assessed.
- If a positive decision follows the pre-proposal, the applicant is invited to submit a full application.
- If a negative decision follows the pre-proposal, the applicant cannot submit a full proposal.
- In the proposal the assessment is based on the criteria 'Quality and innovative character of the research proposal' (75%) and the ‘Scientific and/or societal impact’ (25%).
The planning for the 2025 Veni round is as follows:
- The deadline for submitting pre-proposals is 2 September 2025, by 14:00:00 CEST.
- The deadline for submitting full applications is 27 January 2026, before 14:00:00 CET.
