About WomenLift Health Nigeria Leadership Journey for Women Leaders in Health

The WomenLift Health Nigeria Leadership Journey is a leadership development fellowship designed to increase the representation and influence of women in health leadership in Nigeria.The programme brings together 30 mid- to senior-career women from different disciplines and sectors within the Nigerian health ecosystem.It is delivered in partnership with WILAN Global and forms part of WomenLift Health’s wider effort to develop a global network of women leaders who can influence health systems and improve outcomes.

The Journey focuses on practical leadership development rather than traditional classroom-based training. Participants learn how to navigate complex systems, build effective coalitions, and lead change across institutional and sectoral boundaries.

The curriculum is designed around leadership approaches that can be applied to complex health-sector challenges.

Systems Thinking

Participants develop the ability to understand how different parts of a health system interact.

Systems thinking helps leaders identify:

  • Interconnected problems

  • Institutional relationships

  • Root causes

  • Unintended consequences

  • Opportunities for systemic change

Coalition Building

The programme teaches participants how to build and maintain coalitions involving people and organisations with different interests and areas of expertise.

Coalition building can help leaders:

  • Build partnerships

  • Align stakeholders

  • Mobilise support

  • Coordinate action

  • Drive collective change

WomenLift Health Nigeria Leadership Journey for Women Leaders in Health Requirements

  • You are eligible for consideration if you meet all the following criteria:
    • Identify as a woman
    • Demonstrate fluency and confidence in both written and verbal English communication. This includes the ability to articulate emotions, participate in reflective dialogue, engage in complex interpersonal conversations, and integrate leadership development concepts throughout the Journey.
    • Are a citizen who resides and works within Nigeria
    • Live in WAT (+/-1 hour) time zones for at least 75% of the program as we believe time zone compatibility is essential to your ability to participate at the touchpoints and to engage with your peers within and outside of the sessions.
    • Are a mid-career leader with 10–25 years of work experience in health++. WomenLift Health defines Health++ as the recognition that sustainable improvements in health require coordinated action across interconnected fields that shape and enable health such as climate change, food systems, agriculture, water and sanitation, education, economic policy, gender equity, and technology.
