About WFP Innovation Accelerator x Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator

Extreme climate occasions are putting rising strain on meals techniques world wide. Droughts, floods, storms and rising temperatures are disrupting meals manufacturing, threatening livelihoods and growing meals insecurity for susceptible communities.

Latin America and the Caribbean is without doubt one of the world’s most local weather-susceptible areas. Increasingly frequent shocks and environmental degradation are placing further pressure on livelihoods and meals techniques, making it tougher for communities to adapt and thrive. Yet throughout the area, innovators are creating new methods to construct resilience and assist communities adapt to the brand new realities.

To assist these efforts, the World Food Programme (WFP), in partnership with the Adaptation Fund, launched the Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator (AFCIA). Through its third version in Latin America and the Caribbean area, WFP carried out AFCIA goals to establish, assist and scale modern options from throughout the area, or these with sturdy potential for implementation there, that strengthen resilience, enhance meals safety and assist susceptible communities adapt.

Benefits of WFP Innovation Accelerator x Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator

Successful applicants will benefit from a structured nine-month sprint designed to help scale their innovations. This includes:

  • Support to scale innovative solutions.
  • Guidance on strengthening resilience and improving food security.
  • Assistance in adapting to climate-related challenges.
  • Potential funding to implement during the sprint period.
  • Opportunities to collaborate with humanitarian stakeholders and innovation ecosystems.
  • Exposure to a network of experts and partners in the climate adaptation field.

WFP Innovation Accelerator x Adaptation Fund Climate Innovation Accelerator Requirements

  • Your organization must be an established legal entity (for-profit, not-for-profit, social business, NGO, INGO). 
  • Your organization should have a presence in one of the three countries of implementation (Dominican Republic, El Salvador and Peru). This could take the form of a country office or other permanent presence, subsidiary, long-term operations or partnerships in the country.
  • Your innovation addresses at least one of the above-mentioned priority areas related to pressing challenges faced in the climate adaptation space of the country of implementation. 
  • Your innovation must be at least in the seed stage. Solutions that are still at the idea, research or early pre-seed stage are not eligible.
  • Your innovation should have a clear pathway to scale, adequate resources and a proposed plan to implement during the nine-month Sprint with the available funding. 
  • Applicants are expected to have strong intentions to collaborate with relevant humanitarian stakeholders, build relationships with the country offices, and connect with the innovation ecosystems.
